Char Dham Weather Guide - Month-wise Climate 2025
Planning your spiritual journey to Char Dham? Here's a complete weather guide from April to November 2025 to help you choose the most suitable month for your pilgrimage.
In April, the Char Dham temples are still closed, but preparations begin. The weather is still cold with snow in higher altitudes, especially Kedarnath and Badrinath. Gangotri and Yamunotri paths may be partially cleared. It's a good time for adventure lovers and trekking practice, but not recommended for temple visits yet.
May marks the opening of all Char Dham temples. Weather is pleasant and snow begins to melt. Day temperatures range from 10°C to 18°C. It’s the best time to start your yatra with less crowd and ideal climate. Carry warm clothes as nights can still be cold, especially in Kedarnath.
June is the peak pilgrimage month with thousands of devotees. The weather is moderately cold but manageable. Occasional pre-monsoon showers occur. Temperatures range between 12°C to 20°C. All roads and routes remain open. Advance bookings are recommended due to high traffic.
July brings the onset of the monsoon. Heavy rainfall can lead to landslides and road blockages, especially in hilly areas. Though the region turns lush green, it is not considered ideal for travel due to safety concerns. Only experienced travelers or emergency visits are advised.
August continues to experience monsoon showers. Travel is risky due to unpredictable weather and possible flooding or landslides. It’s advisable to avoid travel during this month unless necessary. Temple accessibility may be limited, especially in Kedarnath and Gangotri regions.
Monsoon recedes and the weather begins to stabilize. September is one of the most scenic months to visit as the landscape becomes fresh and vibrant. Pilgrims who missed the summer rush prefer this time. Roads are mostly clear, and temperatures stay between 10°C to 18°C.
October is a favorable month for pilgrimage. Clear skies and cool winds make the journey refreshing. The temples are open till Diwali or Bhai Dooj, so many pilgrims complete their journey before winter begins. Temperatures begin to dip, especially at night, so warm clothing is essential.
In early November, Char Dham temples begin to close after the festivals. Weather becomes colder with chances of early snowfall. It’s the last window for pilgrims to visit before the region shuts down for winter. By mid-November, all shrines close for six months.
