The closest railway stations are in Dehradun and Rishikesh. Both stations are well-connected to major cities like Delhi, Haridwar, and Mumbai. From there, travelers can proceed by road to reach Hanuman Chatti. The journey includes beautiful hill roads and river crossings.
Yamunotri is accessible by road up to Janki Chatti via Dehradun, Barkot, and Hanuman Chatti. From Janki Chatti, a 6 km trek through scenic trails and pine forests takes you to the temple. Shared jeeps, buses, and private cabs are available frequently during yatra season.
From Delhi, Yamunotri is approximately 450 km away. The best route is via NH58 to Rishikesh, then via Mussoorie and Barkot to Hanuman Chatti. The entire road journey can take around 12–14 hours depending on weather and traffic. Night halts are recommended at Barkot or Mussoorie.
Travelers are advised to check road conditions and weather before starting. The region is prone to landslides during monsoon. Avoid night travel in hilly terrain, carry essential medicines, rainwear, and trekking shoes for the final stretch. Always follow local guidelines.
