The nearest airport to Gangotri is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, located approximately 250 km away. From the airport, you can hire a taxi or board a bus to reach Uttarkashi and then proceed to Gangotri. Regular flights from Delhi and major Indian cities are available to Dehradun.

Rishikesh Railway Station is the nearest railhead to Gangotri, about 240 km away. After arriving in Rishikesh, taxis and buses are available for a scenic road journey to Gangotri via Uttarkashi. It is advisable to start early as the roads are hilly and winding.

Gangotri is well-connected by motorable roads from cities like Rishikesh, Haridwar, Dehradun, and Uttarkashi. Regular state transport and private buses operate from Haridwar and Rishikesh. The last stretch of the journey offers breathtaking Himalayan views, with several dhabas and rest points along the route.

From Delhi, the total distance to Gangotri is approximately 500 km. Travelers can reach Rishikesh (230 km) by bus or train and continue by road through Tehri, Uttarkashi, and Harsil to reach Gangotri. A 2-day journey is recommended for comfort, with a halt at Uttarkashi or Harsil overnight.
