🕉️ About Kedarnath
Kedarnath is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva and holds immense religious importance. Located in the Garhwal Himalayas at an altitude of 3,583 meters, the temple is set against the dramatic backdrop of the Kedarnath range and Mandakini River.
The Kedarnath temple, built of massive stone slabs, is believed to be constructed by the Pandavas and later revived by Adi Shankaracharya. It attracts lakhs of pilgrims each year for darshan and spiritual peace.
📜 Mythology & History
According to legend, after the Mahabharata war, the Pandavas sought Lord Shiva for forgiveness. Shiva eluded them and took refuge in Kedarnath in the form of a bull. When found, he dived into the ground leaving his hump behind—this hump is worshipped at the Kedarnath temple.
The temple is believed to have been originally built by the Pandavas and restored by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century. Despite natural calamities, it stands strong and sacred.
